January 2007 Congressional Briefing on School Health Centers
Patrick and Jenifer Dugan of Watertown, NY
brief Congressional staff about the impact
of SBHCs on their lives.
January 21, 2007 -- Members of the National Assembly on School-Based Health Care met today with Congressional staff at a series of informational briefings to explain the role of school-based health care and discuss new legislation that would expand the federal health care safety net to include school-based health centers. More than 100 Senate and House offices were represented.
The theme of the briefings, Fulfilling the Needs of Children and Families in Crisis: SBHCs as Frontline Responders, focused on how school based health centers help students and their families in times of crisis, such as a sudden natural disaster like Hurricane Katrina, an emerging public health epidemic like childhood obesity, or a rise in the number of children living on military bases with a parent at war.
